Michael Edward Lukens

He played guitar, piano, and drums with passion.  Michael played in a rock band when he was a teenager and still loved to have jam sessions with his friends.  He and his brother, Tim, spent hours discussing “the greatness” of music.

Michael was also passionate about healthy food.  He believed with all his heart in healthy eating, and spent hours reading and researching.  He belonged to groups supporting organic food sources and asking for labeling of GMO’s.  He had just completed planting his garden.  Michael worked daily to convert his family to healthy eating.  He preached the value of organic foods every day, and insisted that all food must come from Greentree.  We all loved him for it.  He wanted us all to “live long enough to live forever”, in the words of high-tech visionary Ray Kurzweil.

Michael was a strong advocate for peace in the world.  He truly believed that one day all humans will live in peace.  He made it a personal goal to find a way to bring peace to the world.  He read several textbooks on neuroscience and planned to study it further to help people.  He listened to musicians that promote peace through their music and hoped to join them in their cause.

Our lives have been deeply touched by Michael.  He approached life with an exuberance and passion rarely seen.  Every day with Michael in it was an adventure.  We cannot imagine the days ahead without him.  Michael was not afraid to tell us how much he loved us.  He told us every day.

We want to send a special thanks to all his friends, community members, and family that supported him and had such a positive impact on his life.

Per Michael’s request: “Come on and join together with the band”.

Michael is survived by his parents, Robert and Linda Lukens of Mt. Pleasant; his brother and sister in law, Timothy and Katie Lukens of Boston, MA; his aunts and uncles, Michelle Straus, Vic and Sharon Myers, Bill and Debbie Lukens, Judy Sugent, Tom and Janene Bills, and John and Carol Bohnsack.  Michael is preceded in death by his sister, Michelle Lukens; his grandparents, Max and Rita Lukens and Harry and Eunice Bohnsack.

A celebration of Michael’s life will be held at the Rowley Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 2:00 pm.  The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Monday, June 10 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm and on Tuesday from 1 pm until the time of services.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Greentree Cooperative Grocery or Isabella Community Soup Kitchen.   Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
